LITTLE STEVEN - "SOULFIRE", Released 19 May 2017 via Wicked Cool Records/UMG - ALBUM REVIEW

I know Little Steven by reputation obviously but I don't know the artist per se. This is actually the first album I have listened to from him. I know, I know, shame on me and all that!!!

The least I can say is that it starts really well with Soulfire, the first title. It's a great track, horns, backing vocals, nice rhythm guitar. The song makes me think about a soft version of Joe Cocker in a more subtle and less shouty kind of way. :-)

I Am Coming Back sounds like Bruce obviously, Blues Is My Business would sit well on a Robert Cray album. Out of the 12 tracks I quite like I am Standing In A Line of Fire and the vibrant Down & Out Of New York City, a faux jazzy theme landing on more rocky chorus. A cool tune that could easily pass for a missing soundtrack from Shaft.

The rest of the album is pleasant. It sounds very E Street and the Bruce fans will probably applause with their three hands. Well produced and nicely written. You cannot help but thinking that the album is a bit stuck in a time warp.

With the calibre of Little Steven one could have expected a little bit more in terms of innovation or introspection. It seems to me that risk taking has been parked. Now this is not about saying that the legendary guitarist and actor has delivered a collection of B-Sides on his latest album because Ride the Away or I saw The Light are very solid tracks. But still you miss a certain rock'n'roll urgency.

Overall I like the album and you may too - albeit you won't be surprised, especially if you like Bruce.

Overall: Cool but predictable.

Michael Monroe - 'The Best'

In the leather-bound history of heartfelt rock ‘n’ roll, not only will Michael Monroe have at least one chapter all to himself, but his name will be colourfully threaded throughout, such has been his impact, his appeal and his ongoing never-surrender story; a powerful, inspirational tale told in detail on ‘The Best’ – the first official collection of his (ongoing) solo musical exploits, featuring prime tracks from 1987 right up to 2017…

“This album is a great representation of my 30-year solo career, including four songs from the Little Steven-produced ‘Demolition 23’ album, which has been unavailable for over 20 years, plus some special rarities and previously unreleased bonus tracks."

Icon, song-writer, multi-instrumentalist, media personality, flamboyant force of nature and one of rock’s most celebrated and uber-kinetic front-men, Michael has been a name and a (much-photographed) face on the scene since 1979 when he played a central role in the formation of Hanoi Rocks – legendary Finnish glam-punk heroes who came within a rolling paper’s width of taking the world by glitter-storm.

Were it not for cruel and fickle fate, Hanoi – who disbanded for the first time in 1985, then finally in 2009 – might have ended up as an arena act; but whatever obstacles were thrust in their path, they were never less than the real deal, and major names like Guns N’ Roses were ready to acknowledge their influence and their worth (G N’ R would go on to issue the European Hanoi catalogue in the US via their Uzi Suicide imprint).

Over his three-decades-plus in the spotlight, Michael has befriended and performed with a whole host of artists and acts, including Guns N’ Roses and Slash; Lemmy, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Little Steven, Ian Hunter, the front-man has shared stages and studios with them all, but since that first break-up of Hanoi in the mid-’80s, he’s essentially been pursuing his own path, and it’s this solo activity that forms the basis of ‘The Best’ – almost two hours’ worth of career-spanning music, re-mastered by Svante Forsback and sequenced by the great man himself.

As well as key, high-profile numbers such as ‘Dead, Jail Or Rock ‘N’ Roll’ (from second solo album, 1989’s ‘Not Fakin’ It’, the promo clip for which features an onstage cameo from Axl Rose) and ‘’78’ (from 2011’s ‘Sensory Overdrive’, voted Album Of The Year by Classic Rock magazine), this two-CD set also showcases some ‘from the vaults’ moments for collectors and completists, with bonus tracks and previously unreleased songs strategically placed to make the journey both scenic and surprising.

“There’s a couple of extra special tracks like ‘It’s A Lie’, sung as a duet with Stiv Bators (Dead Boys, Lords Of The New Church) back in 1985, and a never-before-released 2nd version of the Steppenwolf cover 'Magic Carpet Ride’ featuring Slash, left over from the ‘Coneheads’ soundtrack project that Slash did with me in 1993. And since Slash has the biggest heart of gold in Rock‘n’Roll, he was kind enough to allow me to use it on this album. God bless him!”

Two other previously unreleased songs are ‘Fist Fulla Dynamite’ and ‘Simpletown’, outakkes from the ‘Blackout Stakes’ album (2015), plus there’s the new single ‘One Foot Outta The Grave’ – an anthem of pure defiance – to bring things nicely up to date, showing Michael’s continued commitment to a genre (we’re talkin’ rock ‘n’ roll here, straight from the source!) he has both celebrated and driven forward with unbridled passion, energy and emotion, not to mention a natural front-cover flair.

So... 29 great and glorious tracks. A heady life in music. Simply, ‘The Best’.

The Cavalera brothers are back! Max and Iggor Cavalera, who created some of the most influential metal records in music history with SEPULTURA and inspiring the heavy and extreme music scene over decades, are currently hard at work in the studio in Phoenix, Arizona, to record the fourth album of CAVALERA CONSPIRACY!

ELECTRIC SIX Releases "I'll Be In Touch" (inspired by Billy Joel video)

Detroit-based dance rockers ELECTRIC SIX have made its first official music video in five years! Behold, the video for "I'll Be In Touch" off their latest release Fresh Blood For Tired Vampyres, which was released last October via Metropolis Records.

Directed by Los Angeles director Dillon Vaughn, "I'll Be In Touch" is a shot-for-shot (mostly) remake of the video for "Sometimes A Fantasy" by Billy Joel which was released in 1980. "Twenty-seven years later, the story remains the same," explains vocalist Dick Valentine. "Men are insecure, they have shitloads of problems, and even women who don't really exist have no time for their bullshit."

Known for their timeless videos for "Danger! High Voltage!" and "Gay Bar" from 2003, Electric Six has eased up the throttle on music videos in recent years...but this concept was too good to pass up.

Consistently releasing a mind-bending album every year since 2005, they’ve spiced things up with a heavier dose of atmosphere and textures on Fresh Blood For Tired Vampyres, their twelfth studio album, which All Music Guide heralds, "Electric Six can still make albums that show they have life left in them, and as someone once said, partying well is the best revenge." And party is what Electric Six does best with their raucous and often highly entertaining live shows.

Ian Hunter & The Rant Band announce new single ‘Ghosts’ plus June / July UK tour dates

Following on from last year’s fond tribute to David Bowie, ‘Dandy,’ Ian Hunter releases a second cut from his widely acclaimed new solo album, ‘Fingers Crossed.’ A vivacious stomper, recorded at HOBO Studios in New Jersey, and co-produced by Hunter and Andy York, ‘Ghosts’ was inspired by a 2014 visit to Union Avenue in Memphis where Ian and the Rant Band were invited to jam in rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Sam Phillips’ legendary Sun Studio.

Hunter & The Bear - "Paper Heart"

You Can Talk, the opening track, says it all. It sets the tone insofar, as you know deep down, that you are not going to let it go. You know you are going to listen to the entire album. It is going be solid, cohesive and convey emotions in a way that only a true rock band can deliver.

Rightly or wrongly, even if they are British, I cannot help thinking about American bands such as Vertical Horizon, Life House or even Third Eye Blind... Not so much for the music, even though they are probably not that distant from one another. No, what I have in mind in terms of commonality is the integrity, the craftsmanship and the ability to create milestone anthems, nothing less.

Hologram and Paper Heart in particular are a great platform for lead singer Will who can display his ability to reach not only the right notes but sings with his heart on his sleeve - literally speaking. The whole being supported by enthusiastic and efficient backing vocals.

I like the urgency in Who's Gonna Hear You and I hope for the band that many will get to listen to them and other tunes such as Renegade (tell me if it's a Billy Idol Like Intro) or DRK. The atmospheric I Am What I Am and its slow tempo is a beautiful contained piece of music. Funnily enough I was expecting the track to take off at some point in a very predictible way but it did not and I was taken by surprise by the ending :-).

This band, after producing a solid collection of singles in the last 18 months, is slowly becoming one of the most interesting Atlantic (prior Brexit) rock bands of the moment (it's a new genre only known to me :-)).

You would be daft (I know you aren't :-))not to be curious enough to investigate any further!!!

Overall: I am looking forward to more albums.

DEMOB HAPPY Become Puppets For "Dead Dreamers" Video

UK outfit DEMOB HAPPY’s music video for “Dead Dreamers” has just premiered exclusively at EARMILK. “Dead Dreamers”, which EARMILK called a “bouncy jam full of fuzz and thrusting, tight guitar work”, is the newest single to come from the band, distributed through Atlantic Records’ imprint Taste and Tone.

The “Muppets gone dark rock”-inspired video for “Dead Dreamers” is sure to gain as much praise as the single itself. NME said “There are hints of ‘Showbiz’-era Muse and pre-stadium Biffy Clyro. In other words, Demob Happy are rock giants in the making.” The Guardian astutely applauded the band as “a joyride through rock’s sleazier back alleys.” With the fuzzy guitars, bouncing bass, and frontman Matt Marcantonio’s ability to emote the gritty and the pretty aspects of madness and euphoria conveyed in the track.

Demob Happy have asserted themselves as an unstoppable sonic force since their inception. From playing basements gigs in their own coffee shop-come-studio HQ, the Nowhere Man Café, sold-out headline shows across the UK and Europe, and appearances at Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape and SXSW, the band makes no plan on stopping their upward trajectory. Looking ahead, Demob Happy are currently working with Tom Dalgety (Pixies, Ghost, Royal Blood) on their upcoming album.

Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival expand their brand of Alabama-based soul rock with the release of their self-titled EP, Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival, out May 12 on Skate Mountain Records. Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival are playing the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, AL on May 19. They will be playing full-band at the Mermaid Stage at 12:30 p.m. local time, and then will have a pop-up acoustic set in the VIP Grove at 4:30 p.m local time. Chris Stapleton’s highly anticipated new album, From A Room: Volume 1, landed at No 2 on the UK Americana Chart on Friday, following critical support from influential UK media including Line Of Best Fit and Apple. The highly anticipated full-length record is the first new music from Stapleton since 2015’s breakthrough double Platinum solo debut Traveller and will be followed by From A Room: Volume 2—coming later this year.

Stapleton showed his humorous side on Jimmy Fallon last week when he joined Kevin Bacon in a comic rendition of ZZ Top’s ‘Legs’ for First Drafts Of Rock.

The new album takes its name from Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A, where it was recorded during the winter of 2016-17. Once again produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb, Volume 1 features eight original songs as well as a rendition of “Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning,” written by Gary P. Nunn and Donna Sioux Farar and made famous by Willie Nelson. Additional album highlights include “Second One To Know,” which Stapleton recently premiered at the 52nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards as well as the album’s first single, “Either Way.”

Bridgit Mendler Premieres Video for "Can't Bring This Down" Feat. Pell

RIDGIT MENDLER'S music video for “Can’t Bring This Down” offers a colorful, laid-back energy perfect for riding the warm weather of Spring into the shine of Summer. Never in my wildest dreams I thought I would be content reviewing just one track so I ended up opening a file on my laptop with the utmost reluctance. How wrong I was!

Demob Happy is the name of the band and UK is their home base. Demob Happy is Matt Marcantonio (vocals / bass), Adam Godfrey (guitar / vocals), and Thomas Armstrong (drums / vocals). "Dead Dreamers" the single in question was produced by Tom Dalgety.

At the infamous game of who they remind me: I don't know and I am not sure, maybe HIM in a faster, more modern and less poppy version but it does not really matter, doesn't it? I think they sound like Demob Happy, mature, melodic and musically thought provoking. I like the story telling of the vocals and overall tone of the tune because that's a song not a collage of different stuff as so many so called arty bands do at the moment. Yes my friends, it is proper craft making with digested influences and all.

Dead Dreamers has definitely its own Demob Happy stamp all over it. Of course the production is sleek and thoughtful. But would you expect less from a guy who has worked with the Pixies!!!

Great teaser and great appetizer. I am now dreaming all day about looking forward to listening to a long LP effort.

Overall: OK, I said I did not like singles but I like it. I like it!!!
If I was to pick three only: Listen to it three times in a row then. :-)

DEMOB HAPPY Debut Single "Dead Dreamers"

UK's DEMOB HAPPY have debuted their new single "Dead Dreamers" through Atlantic Records' US imprint, Taste and Tone. The marks the first piece of music since the band's 2015 debut album Dream Soda.

“The world tried to set itself on fire the last year, us included,” frontman Matt Marcantonio explains. “We had to mutate and figure out what this band was, so we just wrote and wrote until we knew. 'Dead Dreamers' is a reflection of that. We expelled our demons, along with the worlds’. We wrote the best stuff we've ever written.”

With their debut single heralded as “a joyride through rock’s sleazier back alleys” by The Guardian, Demob Happy have asserted themselves as an unstoppable sonic force since their inception. From playing basements gigs in their own coffee shop-come-studio HQ, the Nowhere Man Café, sold-out headline shows across the UK and Europe, and appearances at Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape and SXSW, the band makes no plan on stopping their upward trajectory. Looking ahead, Demob Happy are currently working with Tom Dalgety (Pixies, Ghost, Royal Blood) on a new album.

SOULFIRE is available for pre-order since Friday, April 7th, with all orders accompanied by an instant grat download of the recently unveiled album track, “Saint Valentine’s Day.” Additional instant grat downloads will be unveiled in the coming weeks, including the blazing title track, “Soulfire.”

SOULFIRE is Stevie Van Zandt’s first solo album in close to two decades and without question his purest and most uniquely personal artistic statement thus far. The album sees the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer revisiting songs that span the length of his career as artist, performer, producer, arranger, and songwriter, focusing directly on the hugely influential “soul horns-meet-rock ‘n’ roll guitars” approach he first pioneered on Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ classic first three albums.

“I’ve always been very thematic with my work, very conceptual,” Van Zandt says. “I need a big picture, I can’t just do a collection of songs, that doesn’t work for me. In this case, the concept became me. Who am I? I’m kind of my own genre at this point. So I tried to pick material that when you added it all up, really represented me. So there are a couple of covers, a couple of new songs, and some of what I feel are the best songs I’ve written and co-written over the years. This record is me doing me.”

Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul made their long-awaited return last October, prompted by a friend’s request to perform at London’s BluesFest 2016. Van Zandt had only just returned home from The E Street Band’s summer stadium run but as luck would have it, his autumn plans already included a trip to the UK to celebrate both his wife’s birthday and his friend Bill Wyman’s 80th.

“It was perfect circumstances coming together,” says Van Zandt. Little Steven quickly put together a Disciples of Soul for the 21st century, an “ever-changing group of misfits, rogues, and roustabouts” complete with three backing vocalists and a full horn section currently featuring original Asbury Jukes/Miami Horns saxophonists Stan Harrison (tenor) and Eddie Manion (baritone). Stevie and his 15-piece big band crossed the Atlantic and blew the roof off London’s indigo at The O2 with what was supposed to be just a “one-night-only” performance highlighted by classic hits like “I Don’t Want To Go Home,” solo favorites, songs written for other artists, and inventive covers of tracks made famous by Etta James, James Brown, and The Electric Flag.

“I thought, well, we’ve already learned 22 songs,” Van Zandt says. “Maybe we should make an album.” With his usually packed schedule clear until The E Street Band’s “Summer ‘17” tour of Australia/New Zealand, Van Zandt decided to strike while the iron – and his big band – was hot. SOULFIRE was arranged and produced by Van Zandt at his own Renegade Studios in New York City, co-produced and recorded by GRAMMY® Award-winner Geoff Sanoff (Fountains of Wayne, Stephen Colbert) and co-produced and music directed by guitarist Marc Ribler – the latter musician recruited by Stevie as Darlene Love’s music director for Love’s 2015 Van Zandt-produced INTRODUCING DARLENE LOVE and then “borrowed back” to serve that same role with The Disciples of Soul. Background vocals on “I Don’t Want To Go Home” and “The City Weeps Tonight” come courtesy of renowned a cappella group, The Persuasions. SOULFIRE was mixed and mastered by Van Zandt’s career-long collaborators and friends Bob Clearmountain (Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Who, Bryan Adams), and Bob Ludwig (Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The Band, Sly and the Family Stone).

“This was the most fun I’ve ever had making a record,” Van Zandt says. “We did it quickly, while we still had the fire and energy from the London show. We just took it into the studio and banged it out, six weeks from start to mix. It’s one of those strange things, it really seems like it was meant to be.” Each of Van Zandt’s prior five solo albums had seen him expressing his utterly personal songwriting through a changing variety of sounds and approaches, an ambitious adventurousness that has fueled much of his creative output these past two decades. He expanded his parameters, as an actor on The Sopranos and Lilyhammer, as host, historian, and rock ‘n’ roll advocate on Sirius XM’s one-and-only “Little Steven’s Underground Garage” (not to mention creator of Sirius XM’s long-running “Outlaw Country” format). Van Zandt kept his skills sharp by composing the score for all three seasons of Lilyhammer and continued to work as producer and songwriter, lending his distinctive craft to records from an array of international garage rockers, but couldn’t kick a lingering sense of unfinished business.

“I felt a bit guilty about having walked away from Little Steven the artist,” he says. “I left that part of myself behind and I shouldn’t have done that. I let the material down by not continuing to perform it,” he says. “I betrayed the work and I want to fix that. I didn’t give up on the material – there were a lot of other factors – but I do have a sense of wanting some redemption for it.”

Van Zandt – who will remain a touring and recording member of The E Street Band – is now looking forward to hitting the road with his own big band. Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul will celebrate SOULFIRE with an epic international tour schedule, set to begin April 22nd with an eagerly anticipated return to Asbury Park, NJ’s historic Paramount Theatre and then continue with headline gigs and festival dates around the world. Folk/Soul singer/songwriter Nora Rothman is thrilled to announce the release date for her debut self-titled EP, set for July 21, 2017. Recorded at The Fortress in downtown Los Angeles, the EP will feature three spine-tingling tracks that highlight Rothman's dynamic vocal range and intimate songwriting. All songs on the EP were written and arranged by Nora Rothman and produced by Grammy-nominated Felix McTeigue (Radio Perfecto, Florida Georgia Line), Drew Guido (Ingrid Michelson, Sara Bareilles),and Nora Rothman. The EP was mixed by Drew Guido, mastered by Amar Lal, and engineered by Adam Lathrum and Brian Harris. Along with this announcement, Rothman has unveiled a live studio version of her original track, "Judy Garland," which will appear on the forthcoming EP as a bonus track. Hailing from Hollywood nobility as the daughter of Tom Rothman (Chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment) and Jessica Harper (Actress), it was inevitable that indie singer/songwriter Nora Rothman would find herself fully immersed in all things music and entertainment. At three she laid down her first recording, at eleven she wrote her first song, and at sixteen she played her first professional show. Finding a relief in music while struggling with an anxiety disorder, Rothman immersed herself in songwriting and vocal studies as she channeled her contemporary rawness and pop sensibility into acoustic, 70s-esque arrangements. Now at 26, Rothman has more experience under her belt than most. After graduating from Brown University with honors in Creative Writing, she picked up a ukulele, and settled into her unique soulful folk sound while simultaneously appearing as an actress on stage and screen. As a professional vocalist, Rothman soloed at the KJazz Fall Benefit Concert, toured through Italy, played at the inaugural Life is Beautiful Festival in Vegas, and collaborated with visionary director Nathan Kim on their video "Strange // Humanshapes." As an actress, Rothman has starred in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and acclaimed indie film, Hunky Dory.

A singer-songwriter with a singular folk soul sound, Rothman finds a home somewhere in between the deep vocals of Sarah Vaughan, poetic lyrics of Joni Mitchell, and honest musicality of Frank Ocean. An avid feminist and political voice, Rothman moved to Boulder, CO working as a field organizer for the Hillary Clinton campaign and after a six month hiatus, returned to music to release her self-titled debut EP this summer.

Blackest Of The Black Destination Festival will be taking over Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, CA in Orange County this Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 26th and Saturday, May 27th. The brainchild of Glenn Danzig, the event not only serves as a music festival, but as a cultural experience: an escape. The festival will be hosted by Full Metal Jackie and will feature camping, along with a number of sinister attractions, and two music stages curated by Danzig.

Glenn Danzig’s comic book company Verotik will be hosting a few special signings at their booth during the festival. To commemorate the release date of his new album, Black Laden Crown, Danzig has confirmed a rare and exclusive autograph signing session for the first day of the festival only, on Friday, May 26th. Additionally, award-winning comic book artist Simon Bisley will be signing on both nights of the festival, Friday, May 26th and Saturday, May 27th. Bisley has contributed to a number of comics including Verotik, DC, Fleetway, Full Circle, Marvel, and more, as well as Danzig album covers, including Lost Tracks Of Danzig, 6:66 Satan’s Child, and Thrall: Demonsweatlive. His work has also influenced Beast in the 2006 Doctor Who episode “The Satan Pit,” and Simon Pegg’s character Tim Bisley on the U.K.’s Channel 4 sitcom, Spaced.

The Verotik area is only one of a slew of dark attractions to be featured at Blackest Of The Black. The festival will also feature a roaming freak show filled with contortionists, demons, and more, thrill rides, and a Sugar Skull Contest. The main attraction, Castle Danzig is a fully immersive walkthrough experience of agony and ecstasy, all based on the music and graphic novels of Glenn Danzig. Within the vicinity of the eerie castle and courtyard, attendees will find a sacrifice altar, bondage stage, suspension stage, electro stage, blood bath, a padded cell, stocks, cage dancers, and more!

The last time we spoke about Bernie we concluded that he was one of the few remaining guardians of the flame as far as rock'n'roll was concerned. A few months later he does confirm that he is one of the true defenders of the cause. Who else would undertake the release and independent production of a triple album in the current music industry context.

Forgive us, but with Rockchickenz being Dublin based, we are a bit biased when it comes to the title of the album "Dublin Cowboy", but we just love it!!! The triple combo is composed of an album studio, an exciting live take recorded in 2016 in South Shields (UK) and an acoustic session, a long overdue dream from Bernie.

I have never seen Bernie live on stage but I only hear good things about him. He has just completed a UK tour in April but today I am going to focus on the studio album if that's alright with you.

Produced by the man himself @ Barn Room Studios "Dublin Cowboy", the title, opens the ball with a typical Torme's stamp of decibels. The analogue sound adds (if necessary) a sense of authenticity to the track. I must say I am not mad about Hair of The Dog, the following song, but it is probably because I am a Kat person. :-)

Power of The Blues shows if need be that Bernie is more than just a hard rocking guitarist. He obviously excels on a hard rocking tempo but I really like his incursions on any spirally inspired bluesy tune. Then with no warning and when you expect it the least you bump into Little Brother, a pure gem, a bucket full of emotions, music and lyrics wise. This one really struck a chord with me and it's actually my favourite track. It is funny in a way because it serves as a prelude to a series of very strong songs that get this album taking off from that point onwards.

In the Groove is a killer tune, a stunning stone-ish like track and the following melody on the Way it Rolls rocks it's way to super solid composition kingdom. There is no time for a breather with the ambitious two part track Janus which is a nice introspective almost atmospheric musical journey.

Overall a guitar galore album, a production focusing on the songs rather than the sound. And the inimitable talent from Bernie makes this triple album a must buy for anybody who claims to have rock'n'roll in his/her veins.

Overall: A triple album really!!!

RC: Good to talk to you again Bernie 😊 A triple album really? From where this mad idea came from?  

Total bone head stupidity really. I really wanted to do an acoustic album but I thought no-one is going to listen to that or buy it, its not what people would expect, so I decided to do a double, an electric studio album and an acoustic album hoping people would pay attention to that. Then this guy turned up with a live recording of a gig we had done in South Shields in January 2016, so it turned into a triple album…no plan, just the usual accidental chaos!  

RC: The production of an album is tricky enough let alone 3 how did you manage?  

With diffiiculty! I did the live album first, acoustic second, and then tore my hair out on the electric studio one. Its hard to have any kind of perspective really, you are just fire fighting and hoping for the best. by the time you finish you have no idea whats good or bad, just what you hate and what you hate slightly  less!    I try to take as much time out and ask extraneous people their opinions on tracks, but like everybody who does this you have to realise that a less than perfect mix for an outsider means they think it is a shit track, but when you translate their criticism and rejig it, it often turns into their favourite track! Its a minefield. I love doing it and hate doing it at the same time, but you have to be able to see the positive you can take from peoples negative views. The criticism is valid though they often don't know why they say it. Of course they are all wrong in any case!   

RC: Am I correct in saying your album crowdfunding was surprisingly quick? How do you explain this?  

Yes it was crazy quick, 8 hours 45 minutes! Luck of the Irish?  

RC: You have just completed a UK tour, what’s next and will we ever have the opportunity to see you live in Dublin?   I would hope so. Its an expensive place to get to with a band these days, and the way gigs work in Dublin is that unless you are Eric Clapton or Metallica or some other megastar no-one wants to pay! Or no-ne wants to pay me at anyrate!  Maybe its personal!   But I do end up in Dublin quite often, but not so recently with a band, because bands like to be paid!  

RC: There aren’t too many punk’n’blues dudes in the music biz do you think you suffer from schizophrenia 😊?  

Ha! No, I just like music, everything from folk jazz, rock, heavy onwards. I don't care what it is, if it moves me its magic. And everything musical right back to the dawn of music counts in that. Its human communication, and beyond words.    I have a fantastic album (3LPs) of medieval french music which I adore. And I was talking to a good mate today, Chas Watkins (who engineered and produced the Gillan albums) about the afro-celt sound system which he had just bought, one of my all time favourite albums, I couldn't say I was into anything in particular. Just human, forget the polished bland stuff though. Rough as it comes! Typical hippie!  

RC: My favourite song of the album is Little Brother, would it be OK to share the story behind the lyrics?  

Thats difficult to talk about, but I'm glad you like it.    The inspiration was initially because my friend Paul Samson died. I met Paul a few months after moving to London in '74. Paul was a great guitarist, more lyrical and traditional than me, a few years younger than me, and we were sort of competitors and maybe rivals who more than sometimes slagged each other off.    Paul, as anyone who knew him, could be a right  C.U.N.T. sometimes,  but we always respected each other, hugely. It was a relationship based on respect and occasional mutual dislike as well as on love! I was never as adept with put-downs as Paul, so therefore we loved mostly at a distance!  

I was devastated when he got cancer and we all found out it was terminal: I saw him quite a few times when he was very ill, and he was just such a strong brave and funny guy who took it all in his stride.  Its a strange thing to say but he was always bigger than his illness. When he died I had this dream about him lying asleep in the sun. Thats all I can say about the song really.   I couldn't say the song is about anything else, songs are songs, what they mean to me is not what they would mean to someone else, they have their own life. For me it was inspired by Paul, his death, and that dream. I couldn't play it live, I'd cry. He'd also be so pissed off I called him little brother!  Can't imagine what he'd call me!  

RC: What’s your favourite song on Dublin Cowboy and why?  

Probably 'Shine' because it was breaking new ground for me. I like a lot of them though, and thats unusual!  

RC: I am no musician but I think some of our readers are, what’s your standard equipment on the road

Fender Strat into a russian big muff, into a boss noise gate into a bypass pedal (so I can go clean of both pedals) into a 100watt marshall vintage modern into a 4X12 with 4 celestion vintage 30's. Not at all complex.

RIDE FOR RONNIE: Guns N' Roses' Steven Adler to Spearhead All-Star Jam During Afternoon Concert in Los Encinos Park

The third annual RIDE FOR RONNIE Motorcycle Rally and Concert, benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund on Sunday, May 7, 2017 will be highlighted by a host of celebrity riders joining the Motorcycle Ride through the streets of Los Angeles County. In addition, an all-star jam will be spearheaded by Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler-'Steven Adler and Friends'-during the afternoon of live music in Los Encinos Park. Last year's RIDE FOR RONNIE event raised over $50,000 for the cancer charity.

Celebrity riders expected to join Dio Cancer Fund co-founder and president Wendy Dio and the cavalcade of motorcycle riders include Sons of Anarchy actors Emilio Rivera (and also from the forthcoming series Mayans MC), Sean McNabb (who will also perform with Lynch Mob at the concert), Rusty Coones and Star Fields, as well as actor Chris Bruno (The Dead Zone) and musicians Lita Ford, Gilby Clarke (former Guns N' Roses guitarist), Taime Downe (Faster Pussycat) and Xavier Muriel (Buckcherry) along with KLOS Radio "Horns Up" show personality Stew Herrera. They will assemble at Harley-Davidson of Glendale with kickstands up at 11AM.

The afternoon of live music following the RIDE will be highlighted by "Steven Adler and Friends" in an all-star jam organized by the Guns N' Roses drummer. He will be joined by Mike Devin (Whitesnake), Lita Ford, Robert Sarzo (Hurricane), Alex Grossi (Quiet Riot), Patrick Stone (Budderside) and Jeff Pilson (Foreigner and former Dio guitarist), playing Guns N' Roses hits.

Live entertainment will begin at 12Noon provided by rockers Lynch Mob (, Eddie Money (, Rough Cutt (, Dio Disciples (, The Loveless (, Sonia Harley (, and No Small Children ( Marc Ferrari (Cold Sweat), Marty O'Brien (Lita Ford), Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell) and Ronnie James Dio's cousin David "Rock" Feinstein (The Rods) will be on hand for the concert festivities.

Additionally, Rough Cutt will conclude its set with a performance of "Stars," the iconic song released in 1986 by the organization known as Hear 'N Aid to raise money for famine relief in Africa. Heavy metal's answer to "We Are The World" raised $2 million at the time, and there are plans being made to re-issue the recording in the future to benefit the Dio Cancer Fund.

Radio personality Eddie Trunk ( ) will handle hosting duties, which will also include a raffle, silent and live auctions, food trucks, merchandise vendors and more. The silent auction will be held in one of the exhibit booths throughout the afternoon, while live auctions, featuring one-of-a-kind rock collectables, will take place during intervals between artist performances. Live Auction, raffle and silent auction items include a stage-worn full-length leather Eddie Money trench coat from his 2000 "Millennium Tour," a Great White acoustic guitar signed by the band members, Dio photo book signed by all of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a Black Sabbath collectables and merchandise bundle, a variety of concert tickets, wine-tasting certificates, and much, much more.

Los Angeles' premier rock radio station, 95.5 KLOS, has come on board this year as an event sponsor and will be out in force at Harley Davidson in Glendale for the start of the RIDE. KLOS jock Melissa Maxx will be at the park to assist with the festivities.

A donation of $25,000 will be presented to Dr. David Wong of the UCLA School of Dentistry to help fund his team's research into the development of a simple, non-invasive saliva test for the early detection of cancer. This is part of the Dio Cancer Fund's commitment to this ground-breaking project, which is in keeping with its message that early detection saves lives.

Poignant, dreamlike, beautiful: The Last Dinosaur’s The Nothing is a record to swim in. The brainchild of Londoner Jamie Cameron, it’s an album that addresses a tragic event from his teenage years, and transmutes that experience into a cathartic work of art.

At 16, Jamie had met kindred spirit James Macdonald at music college and recorded the 2004 album Good Morning Sunshine… and Goodnight with him under the name When I Was a Little Girl, a well-received debut through the independent label Where It’s At Is Where You Are. But a year later, Jamie was in a car crash that tragically claimed the life of his best friend. Out for the day with one of Jamie’s sisters and another friend, the car aquaplaned and hit another car at a junction. James’ injuries were the worst among the passengers, and when he passed away, Jamie was in a state of shock.

“I’d had a pretty idyllic life until then, nothing particularly bad had happened,” Jamie says. “That was a difficult experience to comprehend. Despite how harrowing it was, I thought came out of it relatively mentally unscathed, although in hindsight that’s a trick you tell yourself.” Instead, he began recording with another music college friend, Luke Hayden, as The Last Dinosaur. Jamie’s parents split up, he broke up with his girlfriend, and The Last Dinosaur’s debut album Hooray! For Happiness, covered glowingly by the likes of Uncut, The Line Of Best Fit and more, attempted to come to terms with these experiences, while avoiding the real elephant in the room. “I was doing everything to avoid confronting this really big thing that happened at an age when you don’t generally experience death and loss,” Jamie says.

Afterwards, depression took hold of him, but over the course of years, he began writing, recording and amassing songs that addressed his grief and own fear of dying. The powerful The Nothing began to take shape. “It wasn’t an intention of mine to write an album about dying or anything like that, but I realised after I’d written a few songs that they all were about it in some way. It got to a point where I couldn’t really avoid it. I’d done the divorce album and it was all I was left with, trying to make sense of this thing that happened. Halfway through I realised it was profoundly cathartic, it made me felt less scared of dying.”

The Nothing is uplifting, life-affirming. Its lyrics may tackle the subject of mortality, but the gorgeous, overlapping, interlacing melodies are like drifting in a blissful reverie. ‘We’ll Greet Death’, with its strings, piano, saxophone and acoustic guitar is defiant, possessed of an emotional complexity. On ‘Grow’, Jamie’s lovely acoustic plucking forms the basis for a song about the fragility of life, while ‘The Sea’ is a meditative post-rock movement that begins in a hushed place and concludes over five minutes later in a gorgeous string-laden denouement. Although Jamie professes to a childhood love for R.E.M, Tortoise and most of all, Talk Talk, the music here is very much his own, self-penned and performed with close friend Rachel Lanskey providing viola on most of the songs. “I’ve had a very strong sense of never wanting to copy anyone else’s music, I just want to sound like me,” Jamie says.

Created between 2009 and 2016, The Nothing is a stunning, affecting album that is also a touching tribute to Jamie’s late friend. “Someone called it elegiac,” Jamie says. “I quite liked that notion.”

WEDNESDAY 13 has unveiled a brand new video for 'Blood Sick', the next track to be taken from his forthcoming album, 'Condolences', which arrives on 2nd June via new record label home, Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Check it out here:

WEDNESDAY tells us "I'm really excited for you all to see the video for 'Blood Sick'. It was all shot on green screen with director Matt Zane. The song is about a spider torturing a fly in its web before devouring it, and I wanted to try and capture that scenario with the band in a giant spider web. I had this vision in my head when we first wrote the song and it's so cool to see it finally come to life."

The album was produced, mixed and mastered by Chris 'Zeuss' Harris (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed) and the sleeve artwork was created by Travis Smith (Opeth, Katatonia).

WEDNESDAY 13 is also confirmed to headline the Dogtooth Stage at Download Festival on Saturday 10th June with his full electric set, as well as two additional shows in Dublin (Thu 8th Jun at Voodoo Lounge) and Belfast (Fri 9th June at Limelight 2).

Once upon a time there was as super group which was writing a super rock n roll fairy tale. Who would have bet at the beginning of Chickenfoot that those guys would go beyond the album. A few albums later front man Sammy Hagar, guitar God Joe Satriani, bassist Michael Anthony (Van Halen), and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) are still making music together and even better: they recorded a new track, assembled their best titles and are offering a live album to their fans.

Divine Termination, the album, and Divine Termination, the title, are pleasant. The latter is not earth shaking material, providing the calibre of the group, but is well worth having an ear open. The studio tracks "best of" is like any best of: a cool way to cast an eye (ear I should say) on a relatively short but fruitful career. Obviously Soap On A Rope, Different Devil and Something Going Wrong have made the hit list.

On the live side of things, you won't be disappointed by the show. I suppose we don’t even need to mention the pedigree of the music powerhouse that has become the Foot. Recorded for the most part at Harrah's Lake Tahoe, it sounds solid, fun and rock'n'roll!!!

The particularity to me and the value of the document, which is Divine Termination, is the inclusion of Sammy Hagar’s old Montrose classic “Bad Motor Scooter,” The Who’s “My Generation” and Joe Satriani’s interpretation of “The Star Spangled Banner" – all recorded live in Phoenix 2009. For once that bonus tracks are really a value added. I am relishing those 3 tracks with no moderation whatsoever.

Is it the best live album of all times? Maybe not. Is it the best of the best of? Maybe not. But gosh, the two make a great combo and I can only wish that those four will continue to play together for a while. They seem to have fun and so do we. 😊

Amplified Ale Works is pleased to announce their newest beer collaboration with rock legends MOTÖRHEAD. Born to Lose IPA is a boldly aggressive West Coast-style IPA, befitting of the band's loud, aggressive style. The 6.5% IPA is brewed with Cascade, Simcoe and Citra hops that provide an earthy, resinous aroma with notes of fresh citrus. In an ode to MOTÖRHEAD's British roots, the beer was also brewed with Maris Otter, a premium British malt that brings a sweet balance to the beer's bold bitterness.

Highly Suspect today release the official video for their new single, "Little One," available via 300 Entertainment. “Little One" is the second single from the band’s critically praised sophomore album, The Boy Who Died Wolf, which debuted at #1 on the Current Alternative Album and at #2 Rock Album on the Billboard Charts. TENGGER CAVALRY Announces North American Headline Tour with Support from FELIX MARTIN and HELSOTT

Last week, it was announced that June 2, 2017 will mark the release of Global Music Award-winning nomadic folk metal group TENGGER CAVALRY's upcoming full-length album, Die On My Ride. The band is thrilled to announce that just a day after album drops, they will kick off a 25+ date North American headline tour featuring support from Venezuelan world music/progressive fusion guitarist Felix Martin and pagan folk metal group Helsott.

Die On My Ride was self-produced at Nature G's production studio Raiding Media, and is available to pre-order now in both physical CD and vinyl format via M-Theory Audio or digitally via the band's Bandcamp page.

Die On My Ride is TENGGER CAVALRY's first album available in vinyl format, as well as their first album to be released with M-Theory Audio - the new label recently launched by Marco Barbieri, former president of Century Media Records and Nuclear Blast America. The album is distributed by AISA/RED in North America.

In addition to these North American dates, TENGGER CAVALRY plans to announce several performances at European festivals this summer. Stay tuned!
