ARCH ENEMY reveal cover art and further details for 'Will To Power'

Metal powerhouse ARCH ENEMY are ready to bring their fierce brand of metal to audiences worldwide as they announce details on their upcoming album, "Will To Power", out September 8, 2017 via Century Media Records. The band are excited to reveal the album's captivating cover artwork, as shown above, designed by Alex Reisfar.

Guitarist Michael Amott commented on the artwork: "It was a pleasure working with Alex Reisfar on the 'Will to Power' cover artwork, he immediately grasped the concept and atmosphere we were looking for with this album. We talked about the double edged sword that is human ambition, how it can be outstandingly creative and beautiful but can also be turned into something dark and powerful. Alex proceeded to masterfully paint a strong image that evokes a lot of feelings. The human skull as a central focal point, the flesh sort of falling off into the circular pattern. The snake ouroboros weaving in and out of the mouths and throats of the severed heads of a wolf, a goat and a vampire bat... All representing self determination and a predatory, almost parasitic will to power"

Co-produced by Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, the album was sent to long time collaborator and friend Jens Bogren (Opeth, At The Gates, Dimmu Borgir) for mixing and mastering and marks legendary guitarist Jeff Loomis' (Nevermore) first recording with the band.

Following in the steps of their most acclaimed album to date, "War Eternal", which saw the band reach their highest charts in the US and Germany to date, "Will To Power" will continue to smash records worldwide. While full details and pre-order information on "Will To Power" will be made available in the coming weeks, fans can currently take part in a special campaign which will allow them to sign up and have their name featured in the "Will To Power" Deluxe Box Set Edition. For further details and to have your name included, please visit:

Having performed over 200 shows in more than 40 countries in support of their previous effort, ARCH ENEMY will continue fervently bringing their show to ever-growing audiences worldwide across the European festival market this summer. UNKLE Announces New Album THE ROAD PART 1 Out August 18, 2017

After a rollercoaster twenty-five year career as an artist, curator and tastemaker, James Lavelle returns with UNKLE’s fifth studio album, The Road: Part 1 - a collection of fifteen new UNKLE tracks inspired by his curation of 2014’s Meltdown Festival at Southbank, their most successful to date. Following a technical error at the manufacturing plant, The Road: Part 1 will now be released on August 18th.

The Road: Part 1 is a collective creative venture with musicians including London folk-rock artist and poet Keaton Henson, Primal Scream’s Andrew Innes, The Duke Spirit’s Liela Moss, long-time UNKLE collaborator Mark Lanegan and Mercury prize nominee ESKA. Lavelle also found new friends and collaborators in Queens of the Stone Age drummer Jon Theodore and Beck drummer Justin Stanley, who make definitive contributions throughout the record.

Recorded in UK, Europe and Los Angeles’ Pink Duck Studios, The Road: Part 1 is the product of a desire to create something fresh and innovative, that also celebrates the rich history of UNKLE, and showcases a new wave of talent such as Elliott Power, Mïnk and YSEÉ. The album also features long-term collaborators Philip Sheppard, Chris Goss, Twiggy and Troy Van Leeuwen. Lavelle set out to make a record that tapped into the multicultural landscape of modern London. His mission was to unite the eclectic mix of ideas, cultures and genres under the UNKLE umbrella and create something unique.

James Lavelle praises the role of collaboration, and its importance at the core of the project: “I hadn’t made a record in a long time, and the incarnation of UNKLE had changed in that now, it was me on my own. For that reason, I wanted to make a record that I hadn’t been able to before, going back to the roots of where I came from, with a foot in modern London.” In July 2016, UNKLE released their first single in seven years. Lavelle teamed up with Elliott Power, Mïnk and YSEÉ for the gospel infused "Cowboys or Indians". Followed by "Sick Lullaby" in February 2017, his second collaboration with Keaton Henson. "Sick Lullaby" is tender and cinematic, a beautiful lullaby that empowers Henson’s delicate vocals.

The latest track from The Road: Part 1 , "Looking For The Rain", - currently riding high on the BBC 6 Music Playlist - is a call to arms in our turbulent modern world written by Mark Lanegan with string arrangements by Will Malone (Massive Attack, Unfinished Symphony and UNKLE's Lonely Soul amongst others). The video, by visual artist Doug Foster, was created by “filming a variety of subjects from nature, such as water, crystals and plants. The footage was composited in several stages to eventually form a moving tunnel of light that features synchronized repetition and bilateral symmetry.”

Creative visual collaborations are a core part of the immersive experience of UNKLE. The importance of the visual experience is an integral part of ‘The Road: Part 1’ and its story. Following the immense success of his critically acclaimed exhibition Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick last summer at Somerset House, Lavelle continued his collaborative relationship with esteemed artists throughout the creation of The Road: Part 1. This includes cinematic and thought-provoking official videos from artists and visionaries including Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones (Cowboys or Indians, Sick Lullaby); Norbert Schroener (The Road), and many more to be revealed.

Watch the official video for the album’s title track "The Road", directed by German filmmaker Norbert Schoerner, The collaboration follows from Schoerner’s involvement with James Lavelle's Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick exhibition. The footage was filmed by using a drone to explore the stark American wilderness. Norbert Schoerner and James Lavelle have created a film that in Schoerner’s own words “describes the ever present conflict between natural landscape and human progress”. The masterfully curated list of visual collaborators extends to the physical release of The Road: Part 1. The cover art is from a painting by German contemporary artist Jonas Burgert. The 36-page booklet features artwork by contemporary luminaries including Turner Prize nominee Nathan Coley, John Isaacs, David Nicholson, Norbert Schoerner, Doug Foster, Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones. It was designed by James Lavelle and up-and-coming designer George Stewart-Lockhart.

In the twenty years since UNKLE’s debut album Psyence Fiction, Lavelle has been prolific. He created four studio albums with UNKLE (Psyence Fiction, Never Never Land, War Stories and Where Did The Night Fall), a host of critically-acclaimed film scores, and curated a series of art exhibitions through Daydreaming With... most notably, the hugely successful Daydreaming With Stanley Kubrick exhibition at Somerset House, and his latest exhibition Daydreaming with UNKLE Presents THE ROAD: SOHO. The Daydreaming with... exhibitions are inspired by the desire to marry music and the visual arts and aim to create a unique and multi-sensory experience, unprecedented by museum exhibitions or music festivals.

Whilst The Road: Part 1 may be their fifth studio album, it is in many ways a new beginning. With shows booked throughout the year in the UK (and hopefully some U.S. dates to be announced) and The Road: Part 2 already in the making, it feels that even after 25 years, the road for UNKLE has only just begun.

Buckcherry's Josh Todd and Stevie D. have launched a new band - JOSH TODD & THE CONFLICT and revealed a powerful new music video for the title track off their debut album, “Year of the Tiger”, out September 15th on Century Media Records. The clip, directed by the renowned Chris Cuffaro (Pearl Jam, George Michael), is the first of three videos shot as a mini-concert this past May in the band’s hometown of Los Angeles. The other two videos will be released over the next few months.

Josh Todd (lead vocals) states: “The album’s title track, 'Year of the Tiger,' was one of the first songs we wrote for the record and also became one of my favorite songs I have ever written. Like most good songs, it came together very quickly. As soon as Stevie sent me the music, the lyrics and melodies poured out of me. I'm a huge fan of Hannibal and the show Narcos, while also being into the big cats. In Hannibal, they had a character that would feed despicable people to his pigs and I thought that was pretty demented and interesting. Also, I am always fascinated with people that have the balls to choose a life or crime, so this track is about a guy living on the edge with a manhunt going on for his life ending in death by tigers." Watch the video here:

“Year of the Tiger” was co-produced by guitarist Stevie Dacanay (Buckcherry) and Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz. Speaking about the motivation that led to starting this new project, Josh adds, “I have a lot of storytelling in me and I always wanted to start another band. Something more reckless and off the beaten rock path. A lot of changes had taken place in Buckcherry and I didn't want to go another year without making new music. BC is in a great place; we have a great new line-up and we have a handful of dates to complete this year. However, my full attention is on JOSH TODD & THE CONFLICT and the record dropping on September 15th. We're gonna do a worldwide tour behind this. My goal is to give each band a break, so I can stay consistently making music without over touring and build both situations into something really cool."

Flanked by fellow guests Mark Wahlberg, Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, Andy Serkis and Woody Harrelson, Cooking Vinyl recording artist and pop legend ALISON MOYET performed the song "The Rarest Birds" on BBC One's THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW. The song is taken from her critically-acclaimed new album OTHER.

Bursting with clarity, vitality and freshness, OTHER finds Moyet at the top of her game - making exactly the adventurous music she wants to at this moment in time, with her voice and songwriting both intense, poetic and thought provoking. Other was again catalyzed by Alison’s fruitful partnership with producer and song writing collaborator Guy Sigsworth, who (as well as having worked with Björk, Goldie and Madonna) also co-created her last album the minutes, which debuted at # 5 in the national UK charts and won international critical acclaim. TOUR DATES

US/Canada: 11 Sept – Sixth and I: Washington DC 12 Sept – The Trocadero Theatre: Philadelphia, PA 13 Sept – Royale, Boston, MA 15 Sept – Irving Plaza; New York, NY 17 Sept – The Danforth Music Hall: Toronto, ONT 19 Sept – Park West: Chicago, IL 20 Sept – Fine Line Music Café: Minneapolis, MN 22 Sept – Star Theater: Portland, OR 23 Sept – The Showbox: Seattle, WA 25 Sept – The Fillmore: San Francisco, CA 26 Sept – Music Box: San Diego, CA 27 Sept – The Fonda Theater: Los Angeles, CA

Poignant, dreamlike, beautiful: The Last Dinosaur’s The Nothing is a record to swim in. The brainchild of Londoner Jamie Cameron, it’s an album that addresses a tragic event from his teenage years, and transmutes that experience into a cathartic work of art.

At 16, Jamie had met kindred spirit James Macdonald at music college and recorded the 2004 album Good Morning Sunshine… and Goodnight with him under the name When I Was a Little Girl, a well-received debut through the independent label Where It’s At Is Where You Are. But a year later, Jamie was in a car crash that tragically claimed the life of his best friend. Out for the day with one of Jamie’s sisters and another friend, the car aquaplaned and hit another car at a junction. James’ injuries were the worst among the passengers, and when he passed away, Jamie was in a state of shock.

“I’d had a pretty idyllic life until then, nothing particularly bad had happened,” Jamie says. “That was a difficult experience to comprehend. Despite how harrowing it was, I thought came out of it relatively mentally unscathed, although in hindsight that’s a trick you tell yourself.” Instead, he began recording with another music college friend, Luke Hayden, as The Last Dinosaur. Jamie’s parents split up, he broke up with his girlfriend, and The Last Dinosaur’s debut album Hooray! For Happiness, covered glowingly by the likes of Uncut, The Line Of Best Fit and more, attempted to come to terms with these experiences, while avoiding the real elephant in the room. “I was doing everything to avoid confronting this really big thing that happened at an age when you don’t generally experience death and loss,” Jamie says.

Afterwards, depression took hold of him, but over the course of years, he began writing, recording and amassing songs that addressed his grief and own fear of dying. The powerful The Nothing began to take shape. “It wasn’t an intention of mine to write an album about dying or anything like that, but I realised after I’d written a few songs that they all were about it in some way. It got to a point where I couldn’t really avoid it. I’d done the divorce album and it was all I was left with, trying to make sense of this thing that happened. Halfway through I realised it was profoundly cathartic, it made me felt less scared of dying.”

The Nothing is uplifting, life-affirming. Its lyrics may tackle the subject of mortality, but the gorgeous, overlapping, interlacing melodies are like drifting in a blissful reverie. ‘We’ll Greet Death’, with its strings, piano, saxophone and acoustic guitar is defiant, possessed of an emotional complexity. On ‘Grow’, Jamie’s lovely acoustic plucking forms the basis for a song about the fragility of life, while ‘The Sea’ is a meditative post-rock movement that begins in a hushed place and concludes over five minutes later in a gorgeous string-laden denouement. Although Jamie professes to a childhood love for R.E.M, Tortoise and most of all, Talk Talk, the music here is very much his own, self-penned and performed with close friend Rachel Lanskey providing viola on most of the songs. “I’ve had a very strong sense of never wanting to copy anyone else’s music, I just want to sound like me,” Jamie says.

Created between 2009 and 2016, The Nothing is a stunning, affecting album that is also a touching tribute to Jamie’s late friend. “Someone called it elegiac,” Jamie says. “I quite liked that notion.”

Clutch at The Academy Dublin - Gig Review

Clutch in Dublin at the Academy. Not that this has not happened before but I did not think it would happen again this time around if I judge by the number of class acts bypassing Ireland the last few months. But Thursday 15th of June 2017 was not one of those days and Neil Fallon the emblematic leader of Clutch stormed on stage just before 9.00ish.

Clear sound, great voice and very efficient musicians set the place on fire within the first few notes. It was meant to be a great gig where people would have a great time and so it was.

Neil owns the stage and his charisma overtook the entire venue in a matter of seconds. Self effacing musicians focused on delivering a solid set giving Fallon all the latitude to play with an audience which was smitten from the get go. Neil mentioned it had been too long since the last time he and the crew had been in Dublin and I agree. Not many bands are as unique as Clutch. Is it power blues, hard core country, stoner soul punk or plain rock'n'roll? It does not matter in the end and I think this is the secret of Clutch. Listen, if you cast an eye on the diversity of the audience one wearing a Danzig Tee, one Depeche Mode or the other Metallica or Sick Of It All it is a sure sign that it’s all about good music and catchy tunes.

I am not going to make an inventory or detailed the track list one by one but we had a lot of old titles, some from the last album and some titles they are currently testing on stage with a view to record them pretty soon. Drinking water (and eating peanuts?) the bond between an entertaining Fallon and the audience was obvious. He is enjoying his time on stage alternating story telling, powerful singing or possessed moves. Whatever he did, the public responded accordingly.

Songs were introduced, following one another they were refreshingly played without the mandatory guitar solo moment or drums skills show off leading us nicely but surely to the encore. At that point the "mob went wild" on the first notes of Psychic Warfare which turned out to be the last track to be played.

Lights on, Neil made sure to hand back the mobile phone of a fan who had mysteriously landed on stage earlier. He also spent a few minutes behind thanking and high fiving many and made sure some hard core fans from the first row were awarded a copy of the track list.

A super night from a super band with a super audience in a great venue. A band confident in his ability and a singer (almost a preacher) unapologetic to rock and roll 😊.

MODERN CHEMISTRY Announces Everything In Gold

New Jersey rockers MODERN CHEMISTRY have re-emerged in a big way with the announcement of their debut LP Everything In Gold. Everything In Gold was produced by Paul Levitt (Have Mercy, The Dangerous Summer) and will be self-released on July 7, 2017.

The band will be having a record release show for Everything In Gold on July 8 at House of Independents, then touring with Taking Back Sunday and Every Time I Die from July 14-August 1. Everything In Gold is a record that takes the emotionally-infused rock that the band has been known for and brings it to a more dynamic, expansive place reminiscent of Manchester Orchestra or Kings of Leon. From the desperation of “Pretty Death” to the delicate vulnerability of the twinkling “Tripping Over You” to the smooth, swaying “St. Rain,” there is a vast array of moods, melodies, and textures applied throughout the album. From the opening title track's tranquil chords to the throaty rage that fades to a calm of closing track "Tradewinds," there is a sense of controlled chaos that makes this record a layered experience.

TRACK LISTING: 1. Everything In Gold 2. The Moment 3. Pretty Death 4. Tripping Over You 5. I Can't Take Myself Anywhere 6. Wallpaper 7. St. Rain 8. Fever Dream 9. Sleep Talk 10. It's Been A While (Demons) 11. Tradewinds

The amount of hard work and heartfelt artistry that Modern Chemistry put into their debut album has been a defining character trait for the band throughout their career. Since forming in 2012, they’ve independently released three EPs, including 2016’s Dreaming Adjacent, produced by Adam Lazarra of Taking Back Sunday. Lazarra praised the band’s passion, saying “they work so hard and treated every decision, no matter how small, with a lot of thought and great care. I'm very proud that they were gracious enough to let me into the process.” Their releases have earned them rave reviews, two cover features in their local weekly The Aquarian, and built them a budding audience.

They also have earned their stripes on the road, touring with Frank Iero And The Patience in 2015 and playing major festivals like SXSW, South By So What, Gentlemen of the Road, and Chicago's Riot Fest. This past fall amidst mixing Everything In Gold, they played a sold out club tour with Mayday Parade and just last month they played Ohio's Spring Fling festival. Modern Chemistry will be supporting Everything In Gold on tour this summer with Taking Back Sunday and Every Time I Die.

Modern Chemistry is Joe Zorzi (lead vocals/guitar), Brendan Hourican (guitar/backing vocals), Jesse Slachman (drums/backing vocals).

Indie rock four-piece Beachwood Coyotes release new single

Jason is tripping in Hollywood at 2AM. Having just taken acid for the first time, he navigates through a vortex of geometric displays comprising the essence of life before deciding he simply must go on a night hike up the Beachwood Canyon trail to the iconic Hollywood sign. The band Jason has played guitar in since age 16 has just broken up after years of cross-country tours, and he suddenly faces an uncertain future. Unfortunately for Jason, as he approaches the trailhead he spots a group of coyotes heading down towards him. Have you ever seen coyotes on acid? They’re scary as hell. Jason retreats back to his apartment, wallowing in disappointment at another lost opportunity.

He discovers the next morning that three decapitated bodies were discovered on that very same trail, victims of an apparent gang hit. Time of death? The exact same time he was scared away. Did those beachwood coyotes save his life? You bet they did. Suddenly songs start pouring out of Jason, years and years of relentless touring providing fertile subject matter for songs about the loneliness of life on the road and the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles. After bringing the hard-hitting rhythm section of bassist Drew Smith and drummer Bryan King on board along with Canadian guitar phenom Yan Clermont, Beachwood Coyotes is born.

The band retreats to a dark practice space and writes loud powerful songs with catchy beats and reckless melodic pop abandon. They design a DIY light show and pour every ounce of their energy into their live shows. The packed gigs feature frequent stage diving and impromptu in-crowd performances, that quickly gain the attention of Los Angeles tastemaker station KROQ.

Their upcoming EP, entitled ‘Scrubby' is produced by Austen Moret. Moret's influences showed the band a world of endless sonic possibilities. He seamlessly blended samples and electronic elements into the arrangements and incorporated a variety of different influences including hip-hop, hard rock, jazz/funk and even some barbershop quartet, pushing the band's music into a whole new territory.

‘Scrubby’ has been deemed a metaphor of the bands journey so far. “Thematically, the EP deals with growth and overcoming obstacles that have been placed in your way, as well as questioning and rejecting things that you may have taken for granted in the past”, reveals drummer King. “A band coming of age record, if you will”.

Leading single Face to Face highlights the band’s use of infectious melodies, driving rhythm section and strong harmonic vocals, creating the ultimate indie rock anthem. Rolling My Eyes showcases the versatility of the band, with a more funky electronic/hip-hop sound and socially conscious lyrics critiquing race relations in America. "We believe the best bands are like a melting pot of each person's styles, which together achieves something unique that you'd never be able to sit down and describe in advance”, confides King.

Buoyed by a growing local fanbase and multiple successful tours throughout the western US, Beachwood Coyotes are ready for their next step in their musical endeavor. Their latest EP ’Scrubby’ is set be released in summer of 2017. God bless those damn coyotes.

COOKING VINYL is pleased to announce the signing of Seattle native NOAH GUNDERSEN, joining the label’s already star-studded line-up alongside Gogol Bordello, Alison Moyet, Lewis Watson, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, amongst others.

“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Howie and the good folks at Cooking Vinyl,” Gundersen says. “In the ever-shifting music industry, it's rare to find people willing to think outside the box and ahead of the curve, while still committing to a meaningful, hands-on approach. I have full confidence that the team at Cooking Vinyl are these kinds of people.”

In regards to the signing announcement, President of Cooking Vinyl America, Howie Gabriel, notes, “On behalf of the global Cooking Vinyl team, I am so excited to welcome Noah Gundersen to our family of artists. With a new album on the way, being able to use our resources to bring the album to the global music market is something we pride ourselves on being able to do. This marks a new era for Noah, and we couldn't be more happy to be part of this journey.”

For his upcoming fourth studio album, fans will find Gundersen's musical palette expanded from his previous works, showcasing thicker guitars and a heightened sense of self-awareness in his songwriting. Coming later this year, the highly anticipated body of work will reflect a whole new side of Gundersen, capitalizing on his already strong media following. NPR notes, “his songs are as intimate as a confessional.” Rolling Stone also took notice of Gundersen early on in his career saying, “It’s rare to see a young artist arrive so fully formed in his or her musical direction, but just in his mid-twenties, Noah Gundersen already seems to possess the soul of a grizzly rocker.”

Now, with a new label, new management (Red Light’s Mark Cunningham) and a new album on the way, Gundersen is ready to make 2017 his biggest mark on music yet. Currently, Gundersen is on the road with City and Colour (full dates below) and will be performing at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival on July 15 - 16. A new album is planned for release in the Fall of 2017.

For a band with such a strong and unmistakable catalogue of original material, Placebo have always had an impeccable way with a cover version. Starting with a take on Syd Barrett’s Dark Globe, way back in 1996, they have freely interpreted the songs of others to complement the originals. Their choice of covers – from Nick Drake to Boney M; Serge Gainsbourg to Depeche Mode – demonstrates Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal’s musical influences and heritage. Rather than keep their musical passions locked in an ivory tower, they approach each interpretation with an excitement to share what they love.

With its sledgehammer beat and Molko’s keening vocal, ‘Life’s What You Make It’ – the lead track from last year’s EP of the same name – instantly reminds you of all the reasons you fell in love with Placebo. There is a great deal in common with the work of Talk Talk (who sang the original in 1986) and Placebo: both remained true to their artistic vision, even if that has sometimes meant not taking the easy route. The song’s message of making the best of circumstances strikes a particular chord in the challenging era in which we live.

“We covered Talk Talk's Life's What You Make It because it is a song from the 80s that we still liked, and wondered if we could replicate Gwen Stefani's global smash hit with her band's cover of 'It's My Life'. That remains to be seen…” Brian Molko says. Molko wanted something different for the film to accompany their song. He had a concept in mind that was loosely based around the original 1986 Talk Talk video that was shot at night on London’s Wimbledon Common. It featured the band surrounded by nature, complete with, as Molko puts it, “little beasties crawling over leaves”. Brian felt that there could be an updated version, where “the band would be robots playing instruments and that e-waste would replace nature, as it appears to be doing only a few decades after the song’s original release”. The brief that the band put out to prospective directors was short, simple and open to interpretation: “e-waste, please!”

It’s not that Placebo were inundated with appropriate responses. Brian continues, “The only director who actually came back to us with a treatment about e-waste was Sasha Rainbow. I called her up to sound her out and discovered that I was speaking to a very brave and passionate woman.”

Rainbow’s accompanying film for ‘Life’s What You Make It’ was shot in Agbogbloshie, a former wetland in the heart of Accra, in Ghana, which is home to one of the world's largest electronic waste dumps. It sets an apocalyptic backdrop of first-world waste against the daily lives of those who inhabit this thoroughly otherworldly space.

“I told her that she had balls of steel for actually daring to go film on location in Ghana and that, no, we would not be coming, since we were timid little souls,” Molko says. “The two boys in the film live in this extraordinary place,” Rainbow says. “Which for me, highlights a human’s ability to adapt with incredible strength, resilience, and humanity.” It is a compelling look into a world that few know exists: “I hoped to capture the environment in a dreamily meditative way that would at once juxtapose and yet synergise with the theme of the song, and glimpse at part of the repercussions of our current technological revolution. On the one hand, technology is enabling us to create things beyond our wildest imagination, and yet little discussion has been had about what to do with all our discarded e-waste.”

“I think that it is important to stress that the video is not anti-technology,” Molko adds. “That would be ridiculous, considering how much it enriches our daily lives. To me, it is about the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity that has not been chosen. We do, however, hope that it will make the viewer think about the repercussions of just throwing away tech that doesn't work anymore. There are several new and ingenious ways to recycle tech these days. Some companies will even give you money for it. All it takes is a little more effort.” One of songwriter Mark Hollis’ key phrases in ‘Life’s What You Make It’, “yesterday’s favourite”, is sung so powerfully by Molko, and underlines the e-waste message strongly in the film; yet it is far from being downbeat – the boys are seen dancing and laughing, making the most of their circumstances.

‘Life’s What You Make It’ continues Placebo’s remarkable run of singles, and its accompanying short film will provide one of the most thought-provoking moments you’ll have all year.

The video for Placebo’s new single ‘Life’s What You Make It’ premiered Friday, June 2 2017.

Volumes - New Song + New Album 9 June 2017

Los Angeles, CA's heavy rock five-piece Volumes has released a new song, titled "Waves Control," from their forthcoming Fearless Records debut Different Animals, set to release June 9.

Volumes will kick off a North American summer tour as support to Born Of Osiris on June 23. Full tour dates listed below. The band has already had a busy year, having been on the road with Born Of Osiris for The New Reign Part I Tour, headlining multiple shows across the U.S., and making stops at some of rock's biggest festivals including Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, and Northern Invasion.

VOLUMES - If Volumes can be defined by two things, it's a commitment to heavy, dynamic music...and confidence. The Los Angeles-based metalcore quintet, rounded out by Myke Terry [vocals], Gus Farias [vocals], Diego Farias [guitar], Raad Soudani [bass] and Nick Ursich [drums], are ready to take on the world. After parting ways with former vocalist Michael Barr, the band welcomed former Bury Your Dead vocalist Myke Terry into the fold, who brings a fresh twist into the mix with his high-energy and vibrant charisma. Having always been a standout in their genre for having two dynamic vocalists, utilizing different ranges of singing and screaming to create a layered and volatile sound, Volumes is ready to embark on the next chapter - building on their finesse for creating a unique fusion between intricate patterns, melodies and aggressive metal. The upcoming release, Different Animals, produced by Brandon Paddock (Set It Off, Palisades, Black Veil Brides), was named one of Alternative Press' "Most Anticipated Albums of 2017" and early singles have already received praise from Rock Sound, Metal Injection and more.

RIVRS Reveal 'Man of my Dreams'

RIVRS are back today to reveal their new single ‘Man of My Dreams’ from their anticipated new mixtape ‘The Berlin Mixtape’ coming next week.

Hot off the heels of banger ‘Bad Karma’, RIVRS say on their new single, ‘Man of My Dreams was something we wrote in Berlin on a keyboard in a flat we were staying in owned by an opera singer. It’s about thinking you've found a guy that’s perfect for you but for one reason or another you don't think you can be enough for them.”

From their first track 'Last Love' being picked up and licensed to cool French record label, Kitsuné to then getting asked by Charli XCX to remix her smash ‘Famous’ which has since gone on to receive over 500,000 streams on Soundcloud! Following from this Charli XCX signed their next track ‘Friend Lover’ to be one of the debut releases on her new record label ‘Vroom Vroom Recordings’! The track featured on the Spotify’s Top 50 Viral Chart both in the UK & US & their Hit New Music Playlist & Apple Music’s Best New Music playlists.

Their career so far has been filled with brilliant moments having supported Chromeo, Honne, Marina & The Diamonds, been the main support for Foxes and Clean Bandit on their last tour. They’ve supported Florence & The Machine at British Summertime Festival in Hyde Park and most recently, performed at Annie Mac Presents: Collected in April.

This is definitely an exciting time to for RIVRS and we cannot wait to see where they take us next.

Maggie Lindemann debuts video for "Pretty Girl" (Cheat Codes x CADE Remix)

RADAR STATE Reveals "Spinning Wheel"

“This band is about getting back to a time when there was no pressure involved in making music,” explains vocalist and guitarist Jim Suptic, “just friends having a beer or two, hanging out in the garage, and making music that’s really fun to play. That’s the genesis of this band.” RADAR STATE has an impressive indie rock pedigree that includes Matt Pryor (The Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams), Jim Suptic (The Get Up Kids, Blackpool Lights), Adam Phillips (The Architects, The Gadjits), and Josh Berwanger (The Anniversary, Berwanger). It’s unsurprising that their sound is guitar-driven and hook-laden, reminiscent of vintage Lookout Records pop-punk.

Their debut 7” is slated for a September 2017 release. The band just unveiled the inaugural track “Spinning Wheel”. It hits every highlight a music lover could want. Kicking off with a dual guitar attack, the track features Suptic on lead vocals singing about being "lost and lonely", with a palpable sense of yearning. It's emphatically backed as Berwanger and Pryor join in on the chorus. "The hardest part / Is knowing where to start / We're pickin' up the pieces together" are lyrics only too appropriate for these times and can just as easily be heard as a plaintive cry for togetherness in a divisive world as being about a broken relationship. Listen to it here:

RADAR STATE is Matt Pryor (vocals, bass), Jim Suptic (vocals, guitar), Adam Phillips (drums), and Josh Berwanger (vocals, guitar). Their debut 7” will be released September 2017.

LITTLE STEVEN - "SOULFIRE", Released 19 May 2017 via Wicked Cool Records/UMG - ALBUM REVIEW

I know Little Steven by reputation obviously but I don't know the artist per se. This is actually the first album I have listened to from him. I know, I know, shame on me and all that!!!

The least I can say is that it starts really well with Soulfire, the first title. It's a great track, horns, backing vocals, nice rhythm guitar. The song makes me think about a soft version of Joe Cocker in a more subtle and less shouty kind of way. :-)

I Am Coming Back sounds like Bruce obviously, Blues Is My Business would sit well on a Robert Cray album. Out of the 12 tracks I quite like I am Standing In A Line of Fire and the vibrant Down & Out Of New York City, a faux jazzy theme landing on more rocky chorus. A cool tune that could easily pass for a missing soundtrack from Shaft.

The rest of the album is pleasant. It sounds very E Street and the Bruce fans will probably applause with their three hands. Well produced and nicely written. You cannot help but thinking that the album is a bit stuck in a time warp.

With the calibre of Little Steven one could have expected a little bit more in terms of innovation or introspection. It seems to me that risk taking has been parked. Now this is not about saying that the legendary guitarist and actor has delivered a collection of B-Sides on his latest album because Ride the Away or I saw The Light are very solid tracks. But still you miss a certain rock'n'roll urgency.

Overall I like the album and you may too - albeit you won't be surprised, especially if you like Bruce.

Overall: Cool but predictable.
If I was To Pick 3 only: Ride the Away, Soulfire, Down & Out Of New York City
Live test: Now you are talking :-)

Michael Monroe - 'The Best'

In the leather-bound history of heartfelt rock ‘n’ roll, not only will Michael Monroe have at least one chapter all to himself, but his name will be colourfully threaded throughout, such has been his impact, his appeal and his ongoing never-surrender story; a powerful, inspirational tale told in detail on ‘The Best’ – the first official collection of his (ongoing) solo musical exploits, featuring prime tracks from 1987 right up to 2017…

“This album is a great representation of my 30-year solo career, including four songs from the Little Steven-produced ‘Demolition 23’ album, which has been unavailable for over 20 years, plus some special rarities and previously unreleased bonus tracks."

Icon, song-writer, multi-instrumentalist, media personality, flamboyant force of nature and one of rock’s most celebrated and uber-kinetic front-men, Michael has been a name and a (much-photographed) face on the scene since 1979 when he played a central role in the formation of Hanoi Rocks – legendary Finnish glam-punk heroes who came within a rolling paper’s width of taking the world by glitter-storm.

Were it not for cruel and fickle fate, Hanoi – who disbanded for the first time in 1985, then finally in 2009 – might have ended up as an arena act; but whatever obstacles were thrust in their path, they were never less than the real deal, and major names like Guns N’ Roses were ready to acknowledge their influence and their worth (G N’ R would go on to issue the European Hanoi catalogue in the US via their Uzi Suicide imprint).

Over his three-decades-plus in the spotlight, Michael has befriended and performed with a whole host of artists and acts, including Guns N’ Roses and Slash; Lemmy, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Little Steven, Ian Hunter, the front-man has shared stages and studios with them all, but since that first break-up of Hanoi in the mid-’80s, he’s essentially been pursuing his own path, and it’s this solo activity that forms the basis of ‘The Best’ – almost two hours’ worth of career-spanning music, re-mastered by Svante Forsback and sequenced by the great man himself.

As well as key, high-profile numbers such as ‘Dead, Jail Or Rock ‘N’ Roll’ (from second solo album, 1989’s ‘Not Fakin’ It’, the promo clip for which features an onstage cameo from Axl Rose) and ‘’78’ (from 2011’s ‘Sensory Overdrive’, voted Album Of The Year by Classic Rock magazine), this two-CD set also showcases some ‘from the vaults’ moments for collectors and completists, with bonus tracks and previously unreleased songs strategically placed to make the journey both scenic and surprising.

“There’s a couple of extra special tracks like ‘It’s A Lie’, sung as a duet with Stiv Bators (Dead Boys, Lords Of The New Church) back in 1985, and a never-before-released 2nd version of the Steppenwolf cover 'Magic Carpet Ride’ featuring Slash, left over from the ‘Coneheads’ soundtrack project that Slash did with me in 1993. And since Slash has the biggest heart of gold in Rock‘n’Roll, he was kind enough to allow me to use it on this album. God bless him!”

Two other previously unreleased songs are ‘Fist Fulla Dynamite’ and ‘Simpletown’, outakkes from the ‘Blackout Stakes’ album (2015), plus there’s the new single ‘One Foot Outta The Grave’ – an anthem of pure defiance – to bring things nicely up to date, showing Michael’s continued commitment to a genre (we’re talkin’ rock ‘n’ roll here, straight from the source!) he has both celebrated and driven forward with unbridled passion, energy and emotion, not to mention a natural front-cover flair.

So... 29 great and glorious tracks. A heady life in music. Simply, ‘The Best’.

ELECTRIC SIX Releases "I'll Be In Touch" (inspired by Billy Joel video)

Detroit-based dance rockers ELECTRIC SIX have made its first official music video in five years! Behold, the video for "I'll Be In Touch" off their latest release Fresh Blood For Tired Vampyres, which was released last October via Metropolis Records.

Directed by Los Angeles director Dillon Vaughn, "I'll Be In Touch" is a shot-for-shot (mostly) remake of the video for "Sometimes A Fantasy" by Billy Joel which was released in 1980. "Twenty-seven years later, the story remains the same," explains vocalist Dick Valentine. "Men are insecure, they have shitloads of problems, and even women who don't really exist have no time for their bullshit."

Known for their timeless videos for "Danger! High Voltage!" and "Gay Bar" from 2003, Electric Six has eased up the throttle on music videos in recent years...but this concept was too good to pass up.

Consistently releasing a mind-bending album every year since 2005, they’ve spiced things up with a heavier dose of atmosphere and textures on Fresh Blood For Tired Vampyres, their twelfth studio album, which All Music Guide heralds, "Electric Six can still make albums that show they have life left in them, and as someone once said, partying well is the best revenge." And party is what Electric Six does best with their raucous and often highly entertaining live shows.

The band will kick off a North American Summer tour on June 2 in Newport, KY, playing tracks from Fresh Blood for Tired Vampyres as well as their tried and true best, including "Danger! High Voltage", "Gay Bar", "Down at McDonnelzzz" among may others. Their critically acclaimed debut album FIRE peaked at #5 on the U.S. Dance chart and would later reach gold certification in the UK. Since then, the band has gone on to release twelve albums including Fresh Blood for Tired Vampyres, a live album/DVD that was funded via Kickstarter and continues to tour both nationally and globally.

Electric Six is Dick Valentine (vocals), Da Ve (guitar), Johnny Na$hinal (guitar), and Tait Nucleus? (synths).

Ian Hunter & The Rant Band announce new single ‘Ghosts’ plus June / July UK tour dates

Following on from last year’s fond tribute to David Bowie, ‘Dandy,’ Ian Hunter releases a second cut from his widely acclaimed new solo album, ‘Fingers Crossed.’ A vivacious stomper, recorded at HOBO Studios in New Jersey, and co-produced by Hunter and Andy York, ‘Ghosts’ was inspired by a 2014 visit to Union Avenue in Memphis where Ian and the Rant Band were invited to jam in rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Sam Phillips’ legendary Sun Studio.

“I’m like some kid in a candy store – always been a fan It’s all still here – the atmosphere – it’s where it all began”

Hunter & The Bear - "Paper Heart" - ALBUM REVIEW

Hunter & The Bear - "Paper Heart"

You Can Talk, the opening track, says it all. It sets the tone insofar, as you know deep down, that you are not going to let it go. You know you are going to listen to the entire album. It is going be solid, cohesive and convey emotions in a way that only a true rock band can deliver.

Rightly or wrongly, even if they are British, I cannot help thinking about American bands such as Vertical Horizon, Life House or even Third Eye Blind... Not so much for the music, even though they are probably not that distant from one another. No, what I have in mind in terms of commonality is the integrity, the craftsmanship and the ability to create milestone anthems, nothing less.

Hologram and Paper Heart in particular are a great platform for lead singer Will who can display his ability to reach not only the right notes but sings with his heart on his sleeve - literally speaking. The whole being supported by enthusiastic and efficient backing vocals.

I like the urgency in Who's Gonna Hear You and I hope for the band that many will get to listen to them and other tunes such as Renegade (tell me if it's a Billy Idol Like Intro) or DRK. The atmospheric I Am What I Am and its slow tempo is a beautiful contained piece of music. Funnily enough I was expecting the track to take off at some point in a very predictible way but it did not and I was taken by surprise by the ending :-).

This band, after producing a solid collection of singles in the last 18 months, is slowly becoming one of the most interesting Atlantic (prior Brexit) rock bands of the moment (it's a new genre only known to me :-)).

You would be daft (I know you aren't :-))not to be curious enough to investigate any further!!!

Overall: I am looking forward to more albums.
If Only I was to Pick 3: I am What I Am, Renegade, You Can Talk
Live test: Please let me know if they drop by Dublin!!!

DEMOB HAPPY Become Puppets For "Dead Dreamers" Video

UK outfit DEMOB HAPPY’s music video for “Dead Dreamers” has just premiered exclusively at EARMILK. “Dead Dreamers”, which EARMILK called a “bouncy jam full of fuzz and thrusting, tight guitar work”, is the newest single to come from the band, distributed through Atlantic Records’ imprint Taste and Tone.

The “Muppets gone dark rock”-inspired video for “Dead Dreamers” is sure to gain as much praise as the single itself. NME said “There are hints of ‘Showbiz’-era Muse and pre-stadium Biffy Clyro. In other words, Demob Happy are rock giants in the making.” The Guardian astutely applauded the band as “a joyride through rock’s sleazier back alleys.” With the fuzzy guitars, bouncing bass, and frontman Matt Marcantonio’s ability to emote the gritty and the pretty aspects of madness and euphoria conveyed in the track.

Demob Happy have asserted themselves as an unstoppable sonic force since their inception. From playing basements gigs in their own coffee shop-come-studio HQ, the Nowhere Man Café, sold-out headline shows across the UK and Europe, and appearances at Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape and SXSW, the band makes no plan on stopping their upward trajectory. Looking ahead, Demob Happy are currently working with Tom Dalgety (Pixies, Ghost, Royal Blood) on their upcoming album.

Confirmed to support The Cribs across the UK at shows including London’s The Forum on May 18th, Demob Happy will also support Gang Of Youths in May, all dates listed below.

Demob Happy is Matt Marcantonio (vocals / bass), Adam Godfrey (guitar / vocals), and Thomas Armstrong (drums / vocals). "Dead Dreamers" was produced by Tom Dalgety.

Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival showcases the depth and spectrum of emotions and vibes that Lumpkin’s rich, raspy croon is so adept at conveying. On the dynamic “Troubled Soul”, Lumpkin offers a welcoming hand to a traveling loner. Atop soulful, bluesy rock and brass, the vocals astutely characterize the mix of heartfelt sensitivity and earthy grit that is at the core of Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival. Conversely, “The Best One” offers a more subdued, curated introspective focus of love-gone-by reflection, with Lumpkin’s aching voice complimented by the rise and fall of the organ and the sparse drums.

TRACKLISTING: 1. Every Time I Leave 2. My Name Is Love 3. The Best One 4. Down To The Fields

Hailing out of Mobile, Alabama, Jimmy Lumpkin’s music reflects the heart and soul of the man himself: sensitive, passionate, and considerate of the ebbs and flows of life, all types of people, and the world, with southern roots clearly reflected in the shades of soul, Americana, and blues influences found in his brand of rock. A quiet man who loves to spend time at home, in his cabin with his wife, Lumpkin’s uses his music to speak for him. Far from a stereotype or trope of his environment, Lumpkin is one of the most progressive people you’d ever expect to meet from Alabama. A vegetarian and environmentalist, he is passionate about the damage being done to the planet and the life on it. Writing songs at his home just outside of a town rich with Southern history and racial diversity, Lumpkin is acutely aware of the conflicts and injustices going on in the country and is passionate about making a world where all cultures can co-exist peacefully.

For his part, Lumpkin translates these passions and feelings into art that brings out the emotions needed to rise above the strife, yet remain resolutely human. Lumpkin is aided in this mission by his talented band, including Duane Betts and the horn section known as The Horn Stars (also known as "Sturgill Simpson's Road Dog Horns"). Creating and performing as Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival, they bring out an array of emotions with Lumpkin’s impassioned voice and lyricism carried hand-in-hand with bluesy guitar, horns, and organ.

After performing at Hangout Music Fest, Lumpkin will be embarking on a solo tour in June with Sean Rowe (all dates below). With music made so clearly indicative of the soul and place it derives from, Lumpkin is eager to hit the road with an open heart promising healing and a celebration of all that comes in this life.

Chris Stapleton’s highly anticipated new album, From A Room: Volume 1, landed at No 2 on the UK Americana Chart on Friday, following critical support from influential UK media including Line Of Best Fit and Apple. The highly anticipated full-length record is the first new music from Stapleton since 2015’s breakthrough double Platinum solo debut Traveller and will be followed by From A Room: Volume 2—coming later this year.

Stapleton showed his humorous side on Jimmy Fallon last week when he joined Kevin Bacon in a comic rendition of ZZ Top’s ‘Legs’ for First Drafts Of Rock.

The new album takes its name from Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A, where it was recorded during the winter of 2016-17. Once again produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb, Volume 1 features eight original songs as well as a rendition of “Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning,” written by Gary P. Nunn and Donna Sioux Farar and made famous by Willie Nelson. Additional album highlights include “Second One To Know,” which Stapleton recently premiered at the 52nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards as well as the album’s first single, “Either Way.”

In addition to Stapleton on vocals and guitar and Cobb on acoustic guitar, the album features Morgane Stapleton on harmony vocals as well as longtime band-members J.T. Cure on bass and Derek Mixon on drums and musicians Mickey Raphael on harmonica, Robby Turner pedal steel and Mike Webb on keys.

The May 5 release of Volume 1 comes exactly two years to the day since the release of Traveller. Released to immediate widespread critical acclaim, the album had one of the best-selling first weeks by a debut country artist in 2015. Following a historic turn on the 49th Annual CMA Awards—where Stapleton became the first artist to win Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year at the same awards – Traveller became the first album to re-enter the Billboard 200 all-genre album chart at No. 1, where it stayed for two straight weeks. The critically acclaimed album went on to win multiple Grammy and ACM Awards and was the #1 selling Country album of 2016 and the fourth-highest selling album of 2016 across all genres. Additionally, in the past two years, Stapleton has performed on multiple national TV shows including “Saturday Night Live,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and was profiled on “CBS News Sunday Morning.”

Coming off a sold-out Canadian tour last month, Stapleton is currently in the midst of an extensive U.S. tour. “Chris Stapleton’s All-American Road Show” will span throughout 2017 and includes stops at L.A.’s The Forum, Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and New York’s Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater and will feature Brothers Osborne, Lucie Silvas, Anderson East, Brent Cobb, Margo Price and Marty Stuart as special guests. Of a recent performance, the Seattle Times declares, “…Stapleton dazzled the sold-out crowd with a barrage of songs that defy easy categorization while receiving the kind of deafening cheers reserved for superstars.” For information & tickets please visit:

Bridgit Mendler Premieres Video for "Can't Bring This Down" Feat. Pell

RIDGIT MENDLER'S music video for “Can’t Bring This Down” offers a colorful, laid-back energy perfect for riding the warm weather of Spring into the shine of Summer. Logging in at over 1 million streams on Spotify and Youtube combined, “Can’t Bring This Down” is sure to grow more popular with the release of this music video, directed by Vladimir Sepetov.

Featuring guest vocals and appearance from rising MC Pell, along with trippy, kaleidoscope-esque visuals, this video parallels the easing, endearing spirit and lush vocals Bridgit brings to the track. Bridgit told Paper Magazine: "This video was so simple but it captures the disorienting effect of your emotions. With Pell and me in this video, you can't tell which way is down. When you fall for someone, you fall upwards into an emotional high. It was easy and fun to shoot this video because when I work with Pell, he is always game to try out ideas. It makes creativity boundless."

Pell waxed on the creative process saying, "I love working with Bridgit because it feels effortless when we create. The song reminds me of how good it can feel when you don't hold down your feelings, and also how fun it can be giving into them."

“Can’t Bring This Down” conveys the pleasant etherizing momentum of a new love interest, and the music video embodies that sweeping excitement. Bridgit’s dynamic vocal range offers a variety of tones throughout the track - from soaring, crooning choruses to sultry R&B-influenced verses, perfectly blended the airy and the palpable parts of joyful new beginnings. The subtle, pulsing drum-and-bass beat of the hook and the finger snaps of the verses wrap around helping to emphasize how Bridgit and Pell’s voices complement each other, creating a pop hit that sways with a soft intimacy.

Described by Noisey as a “crossroads between Imogen Heap and early Purity Ring”, Bridgit has been building her career independently and consistently, evolving from her pop-oriented origins and honing her own sound influenced by artists such as Lauryn Hill. Her effortless combination of silky pop verses with edgy soul and R&B-tinged choruses create beautiful harmonies and show off her impressive vocal range. Amassing a social media following that amounts to millions across multiple platforms (7.7 million likes on Facebook; 4.78 million on Twitter; 1.5 million on Instagram), Bridgit has clearly built a well-earned fanbase. Her single "Atlantis" (her first since the release of debut album, 2012's Hello My Name Is...) scored a highly coveted spot on Stereogum's "Top 40 Pop Songs of 2016" as well as positions on top Spotify playlists including New Music Friday, Workout, Young & Free, among others. Establishing her firm hold on the mainstream, the track received over 1 million total plays on Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, and Apple Music on release and reached #1 on Hype Machine's Popular Chart and #2 on Spotify's Global Viral Chart.

Like the previous single, "Atlantis", the stunning follow-up “Do You Miss Me At All” premiered on Noisey, followed by the music video’s premiere on Pigeons & Planes, who labeled the song a “simmering breakup track.” Taken from her Nemesis EP, "Do You Miss Me At All" hit #2 on Spotify’s Viral Chart and #1 on Hype Machine, garnering more than 7 million combined streams and receiving international critical acclaim, exponentially building her momentum and setting the stage for the aforementioned astounding debut of "Can't Bring This Down."
