“I think this song kind of relates to me as a human maybe more than it relates to me as a musician right now,” explains San Diego-based singer/guitarist CODY LOVAAS about his new single “LIE”. “It shows the less serious side of me, the side that just wants to go out with girls and hang out with my friends.” Thankfully, this innate and primal appeal to be human has struck a nerve.
Called an “insanely catchy pop-Rock gem” by pop music tome IDOLATOR, the single “marries pop melodies with some good ol’-fashioned rock sensibility” and fuses it into a song that’s “breezy and carefree-sounding.”
A surfer by nature but a serious and committed artist at heart, Cody started his musical curiosity at the wee age of seven. “I was in the car with my mom,” he says, “and basically, I straight-up asked her if I could start playing the drums—at seven years old, that would’ve made for a really loud house. So she said, ‘What about a different instrument? How about the guitar? Girls like guitarists.’ Of course, I asked her to sign me up as soon as possible.”
Originally discovered by Jason Mraz at age 14, he’s grown into a budding true talent which Pancakes and Whiskey observed has “a musical prowess of someone twice his age.” Inspired by the likes of Van Morrison, The Weeknd, Ray Lamontagne, Bishop Briggs, Kaleo, and BØRNS, Cody’s music encompasses the deep introspection of a deep thinking artist with the laid-back rhythm of his other love - the surf. Cutting his musical teeth on tours supporting Ziggy Marley, Switchfoot, Donavon Frankenreiter and Mraz, he won Best New Artist at the 2014 San Diego Music Awards, and was nominated for Best Singer-Songwriter at the same awards ceremony the very next year. The San Diego Troubadour has let readers know “Lovaas has emerged as a major talent,” and AXS cites his lyricism as “upbeat, mature, and meaningful.”
It’s been said by people in the industry that Cody “has a heart of gold”—that he’s “always giving back. He is growing into a shining star.” And when it comes to giving back, Cody, according to Popdust, “is quick to understand the implications of the spotlight and what it means to change lives.” He regularly volunteers with organizations like SurfAid and Natural High, donating his time whenever he can. With “Lie” ready to splash him into the mainstream, Cody has a bright future ahead of him. If this single is any indication, his wave should be breaking any second.
Cody will be hitting the road for a number of California dates in March. Be sure to look out for him in a city near you soon!
TOUR DATES: March 13- Rolling Hills Preparatory School (San Pedro, CA) March 14- Poway High School (San Diego, CA) March 15- Muirlands Middle School (La Jolla, CA) March 20- Caroldale Learning Community (Carson, CA) March 21- Ventura Pacific High School (Ventura, CA) March 22- Balboa Middle School (Ventura, CA) March 23- Abraham Lincoln High School (San Francisco, CA)

East of Eli (aka Nathan West) debuted his first single from his sophomore release Lost Transmission on Valentine’s Day in honor of his wife famed actress Chyler Leigh (Supergirl, Grey’s Anatomy).
The song titled Nowhere, beautifully fuses cinematic folk, pop melodies and modern electronic sound. Nowhere is a love letter to West's wife, acclaimed actress Chyler Leigh who makes her singing debut providing angelic harmonies throughout the track. The arrangement is stunning, highlighting catchy melodies, soaring guitars and deep synths, a reminder of their devotion to one another despite the challenges that come with both having careers in entertainment.
Thematically and sonically, the new single is East of Eli's strongest work to date, a poignant reflection of the past and present.
“Nowhere is a song about how true love knows no boundaries. I invited Chyler to be featured on the track to create a haunting vocal presence that would represent the idea that when you are alone and you think about your lover, they are thinking of you. Her performance is very honest and heartfelt which is exactly tone and feel I wanted to capture within the story and production.” confides West.
Nowhere is off of East of Eli’s upcoming release Lost Transmission. Lost Transmission thematically draws it’s influence from all the transmissions sent to outer space in hopes of connecting with other intelligent life. It’s symbolic in nature of releasing a new album or song. The title track, Lost Transmission (to be released shortly thereafter) was written for West's son Noah who is diagnosed with ADHD & Autism. The song is an anthem intended to capture his son’s undivided attention to break through to the truth and beauty of who his son is becoming in spite of his own day-to-day struggles. The new album is the evolution of that journey, with songs dedicated to all three of his children, his wife and himself, that “connect with humanity through the music.” West confides.
East of Eli has received critical acclaim with American Songwriter noting West as an artist on the rise. East of Eli has also found success performing at top venues throughout Southern California including the House of Blues and Soho House.
East of Eli will perform select dates in Los Angeles, Vancouver and Nashville to support the release.
A new single has been released by Waterloo pop-punk band Among Legends. The track is called ‘The Wall’ and will be featured on the band’s new EP Starting Over, scheduled for release on February 28.
“‘The Wall’ is a song about never giving up on the people you care about,” said Cameron Bechtloff, lead guitarist of Among Legends and primary songwriter for the single. “The strongest relationships can make it through some pretty bitter fights, and this song takes place in one of those times where that bond is really tested.”
“I love playing this song live,” said Sara Fellin, drummer of Among Legends. “Every instrument gets a chance to shine. The bass is strong and melodic, the guitar work is really dynamic, and the drums have this cool, unique pattern. Everything just works so well together.”
‘The Wall’ premiered exclusively through Dying Scene and will be streaming online until February 17, when it will become available across all major streaming platforms and on amonglegends.com.
About Among Legends: Pop-punk band Among Legends combines catchy, energetic music with messages of inclusiveness and positivity. UK Country superstar duo, The Shires, today release their heartfelt new single, ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’. The track’s lyrics, written by Shires vocalist Crissie Rhodes, celebrate cherished memories of her late father. From the “smell of Old Spice” or his “flat cap on the dash” the song’s lyrics share Crissie’s fondest memories of her father, who for her, was the “man who hung the moon.”
“This is a very personal song. My dad passed away from Cancer when I was 8 years old, but I still think of myself as Daddy’s Little Girl. The music video features real footage and photos of us together, and also the glasses and flat cap he wore every day. It was wonderful to go through all this in the process, as it brought back so many great memories. I have also received many messages from fathers, saying how much this song means to them, as it reminds them of their daughters.” – Crissie
The track, written in Nashville, is one of the most popular songs on The Shires’ hit album ‘My Universe’ - landing over 290k streams on Spotify to date. The song also proved to be a live favourite on their UK Headline Tour last year – performed acoustically with just Ben and Crissie on stage, the crowds always fell completely silent, often with tears in their eyes.
The Shires celebrated a landmark year in 2016 with the release of their new album 'My Universe' which stormed the UK Album Chart, landing at No.3 and becoming the fastest-selling UK Country album of all time. The duo received endorsements from celebrity fans including Robbie Williams, as well as resounding support from the media, including BBC Radio 2, being made Album of the Week at the station and landing three consecutive A-list singles; ‘Beats To Your Rhythm‘, ‘My Universe‘ and 'A Thousand Hallelujahs’. A packed summer festival schedule also included their first Headline performance at Glastonbury, on the Acoustic Stage.
Last year The Shires also joined the ranks of prominent US Big Machine Label Group Country artists Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett by signing an exclusive recording deal with the leading US Country music record label. The Shires are undoubtedly seen as the trailblazers of the UK Country music movement in the USA as well as the UK, which saw a sea change in recent years, with the British public fully embracing the genre.
This month has already seen the band appear on BBC One’s ‘One Show’ and with imminent plans to focus on expanding their presence in the USA, as well as another big UK Headline Tour, 2017 is already shaping up to be another landmark year for UK Country and The Shires.

Melodic rockers from Finland get seriously (solar) powered on fourth studio album, set for release via Spinefarm Records on March 24th.
Brother Firetribe – the five-strong outfit fuelled by class compositions and top-of-the-line musicianship, the latter underpinned by the signature style of Nightwish guitarist, Emppu Vuorinen – have announced the March 24th release of fourth full-length album,‘Sunbound’, via Spinefarm Records…
Featuring 12 new pieces of music, including lead track ‘Taste Of A Champion’ plus follow-up single / video ‘Indelible Heroes’, due out next month, ‘Sunbound’ has been mixed by Finnish studio-meister Mikko Karmila (Nightwish, Children Of Bodom,Stratovarius), and is the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Diamond In The Firepit’.
Since first coming together for their ‘False Metal’ debut back in 2006, Brother Firetribe have flown the flag for a brand of music (‘ultra-melodic West Coast AOR’) that once strode the US radio airwaves like a colossus, filling up arenas and providing the silky soundtrack to pool-side summers and wind-in-the-hair coastal highway drives; music pioneered by some of rock music’s most legendary names.
However, Brother Firetribe – that’s vocalist Pekka Ansio Heino, keyboard player Tomppa Nikulainen, bassist Jason Flinck, drummer Hannes Pirila, plus Vuorinen himself – are not trying to hitch a DeLorean ride into the past; rather, their collective aim is to both celebrate and reinvigorate a musical style that is all about big hooks, strong melodies, soaring vocals and searing guitars, not to mention the desire to entertain on a grand an’ glorious scale.
‘Taste Of A Champion’ – recently used as the theme for a major Finnish advertising campaign – packs all of the above qualities into an epic three-and-a-half minutes of ‘Rocky’ soundtrack-style delight, setting the tone for an album that stands as the perfect antidote to long, lonely winter nights under the quilt.
Expect Brother Firetribe to return to UK soil later this year, following on from their appearance at the Firefest event in Nottingham back in 2014.

Displaying remarkable songwriting ability as a skilled lyricist, with hard-hitting and empowering words laced over unexpected and expansive melodies, 20-year-old Norwegian talent Sigrid drops her debut single, ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’ today via Island Records. Sigrid was inspired to write the empowering anthem after she was put in a difficult writing session, but it can be interpreted in several ways, “it may be a message to your cat, telling her that she's not the master of the universe. Or maybe it's just a really long DM saying you're SO done with someone”, says Sigrid.
Sigrid wrote her first song at 16-years-old and in just two weeks – when Sigrid’s older brother challenged her to write an original song and perform it at a local gig with him. Born and raised in Ålesund, Norway, Sigrid self-released her first song in high school and dropped a second track that was immediately playlisted on national radio. Sigrid then moved to Bergen, Norway at age 18 and was catapulted into the burgeoning music scene. Now signed to Island Records and currently splitting her time between Bergen and London, Sigrid has quietly been creating a world which emboldens her followers, through the power of the song.
Liat’s voice has a haunting quality that is somehow comforting, and a musical style that has been described as “folk-edge.” It is undeniably unforgettable! Liat’s songs range in attitude and are always evolving. She explains, “I am writing more about living life the way you want to. Manifesting what you aspire to be and more about loving yourself.”
Back in the college days during her studies in speech pathology, she took vocal therapy where she was introduced to many different vocal techniques. Traveling is another big part her life. She has played a talent show in front of hundreds of people in Israel, performed at a wedding in London, did an impromptu performance on a boat launched from Venice, and took a turn at a Portland Oregon coffee shop.
Liat received some formal music training as a child in voice, piano, and guitar. She then wrote her first song at age fourteen, shortly after her father taught her some chords on the guitar. During high school she formed a band, which played all over Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York City. It was at this time she developed her songwriting process. “It depends on the situation, but I usually improvise where music and lyrics are concurrent. I start with a chord progression, turn the recorder on, and start singing words.”
Over the passed 3 years, she has gone full force as a professional musician. She is a music specialist at a preschool. Singing to children under the age of 5 years old. "There is no judgement with this beautifully pure audience. They are down for anything!" Liat's inner child is always present no matter where she is. A personal therapy of hers, is playing live music during yoga classes. Her music has become more therapeutic than performance based. Liat is considered to others as a sound healer. Healing the lives from infants to elderly.
Liat's purpose is to reconnect the mind, body, and spirit through music. Be it live, download, on CD, or radio and television, you won’t want to miss this emerging and deserving artist.
